Hey MD,
We started a dividend portfolio at the same time! I see you bought XOM good choice I went back and forth and went with RDS-B and COP I really regret not listening to myself and choosing XOM. It certainly held on. I sold COP when they cut their dividend. The most important lesson I learned from that is not to listen to other people and stick with my strategy. Anyway will be fun to follow you wish I was contributing as much as you are but I’m throwing what I can at my 401k.
I try and contribute what I can…. when I can. Yeah I bought XOM when it was cheaper and then worked my cost basis down lower while the price of oil was still way cheaper. If the price gets down below my cost basis I would still buy more shares.
That is a good point and that is why it is nice to establish your strategy first… it makes it easier to stick to it once you already have your planned laid out. I see that you didn’t like a website…. do you list your portfolio online?
I contribute up to the max that my employer will match in my Roth401k but I am only able to buy either some target funds or some index funds in there. I am actually excited for the day that I am able to rollover that money into my Roth IRA because that will allow me a lot of fresh capital to invest in dividend stocks.
Thanks for stopping by and joining me on my journey!
I guess I forgot to say i bought COP during some conversations I had with an coworker.
No I don’t have a website and I’m just starting to interact with the blogs I read. Maybe I’ll think about that. My dividend portfolio is pretty small right now I have positions in 10 companies. I buy every other month and I am making monthly payments towards maxing out my 401k which the offerings are nothing to be excited about. There’s one Vanguard fund like a total market type. I put the bulk in there. I don’t think I’ll be able to up my dividend contributions until I meet my emergency fund goals but it sure would be nice to be able to move on things like Brexit or when WMT dropped last year.
Shopping for my buy next month sucks, slim pickings. Still researching but currently looking at GD, AFL,GWW, maybe TMP or ABT wish I could get PG in there. Maybe I’ll have to sit and see if anything on my wish list drops.
Be patient and wait until you are able to buy the stocks that you want…. at the prices that you want. It is slim pickings these days but I do think that there is some good stocks out there. That is very wise to wait and have an emergency fund before you start putting a lot of money into dividend investing although it sounds like you have a pretty good start since you are currently holding 10 positions. That is great. In time all the planning and wise decisions will pay off.
Nicely diversified. Reinvesting is key!
Congratulations with a solid month. Nice diversification among sectors. I like your position in GPC, it’s on my list.
Good luck with investing
Thank you dividendcompounder. I have been holding that stock for a couple of years. I would love to be able to add to that position. Thanks for stopping by!
