More Dividends Update from August 2016
To start with I want to wish everyone a Happy Labor Day. I hope everyone is enjoying their time off to spend with friends and family. August has been a very busy month for me. I have been able to accomplish some of my goals but have fell short on others but this doesn’t mean I am going to quit. I will continue to set goals and strive to accomplish them. The blog has been growing nicely and I appreciate all of the engagement that I receive everyone. I have updated the Dividend Income and Portfolio pages so that they are all current.. Well let’s go ahead and break down the month of August and see how it turned out.
Additions
August has seen some new positions to my holdings as well as building up some of the existing positions. I think these additions fit well into my current portfolio and allow me some more diversification by sector.
Flowers Foods (FLO) – 32 shares with a cost basis of $500.31 ($10.24 in dividend income for 2016)
Apple Inc. (AAPL) – 1.1433 shares with a cost basis of $126.00 ($0.67 in dividend income for 2016)
Coca Cola (KO) – 4.4092 shares with a cost basis of $176.00 ($1.33 in dividend income for 2016)
Kroger (KR) – 3 shares with a cost basis of $97.97 ($0.36 in dividend income for 2016)
This will add $12.60 to Dividend Income for the year.
I know that these look like small additions in Dividend Income but you have to remember that most if not all of these companies will only pay out one more dividend during 2016. The impact of these late in the year additions will really show at the beginning of next year when I project the Dividend Income for 2017.
Dividends Received
During the month of August I received several dividend payments from a couple of companies. This month definitely looked a little better than last month.
Apple (AAPL) – $0.55
Omega Healthcare Investors (OHI) – $9.60 – Reinvested
WestRock (WRK) – $5.25 – Reinvested
August was the second month of Q3 and accounted for $15.40 of my 2016 Dividend Income.
So far my dividends received looks like this
Dividends Received By Year
Amazing results with 710% YoY growth. I have shown in the image below though that the growth was created by new capital used to purchase more stocks. Plus it’s not hard to have great growth that was when your initial amount is $1.90 but hey we all have to start somewhere!
Dividend Increases
During the month of August I did receive a dividend increase. The thing with this particular increase is that it is actually the first dividend that I have received from the company. Regardless, before I purchased the stock I had factored in for a certain amount of dividend…. and then immediately I am given more money for a dividend than I originally planned for. This is always a welcomed surprise now let’s see the increase.
Omega Healthcare Investors (OHI) – $0.58 to $0.60 – 3.4% Increase
Current Portfolio
Something that I have decided to add to my monthly updates is a snapshot of what my Portfolio looks like at the time of the update. So here is the breakdown of my Portfolio.
Portfolio Allocation
With the addition of Flower Foods to my portfolio plus with the accumulation of more Coca Cola stocks it has led to Consumer Goods moving up to be tied for second with Retail as far as capital allocation is concerned. Now let’s take a look at how the allocation looks for the More Dividends Portfolio.
Seeking Alpha Articles
Despite my goal of publishing 2 articles on Seeking Alpha, unfortunately during the month of August I did not submit any articles to be published on Seeking Alpha. I am hoping to get back on track during the month of September and publish some articles on Seeking Alpha.
MoreDividends.com Articles
Here are the articles that I posted on here this month. This is another area that I am looking to add more content to during the next month.

Goals for August
Some of my goals I was able to accomplish and some of my goals I fell short on. I have no excuses good excuses for this but only reasons. I will continue to set goals for myself moving forward and continue to strive and to try and accomplish all of my goals that I set every month.

Conclusion
The month of August has been very interesting for me. I wasn’t able to accomplish everything that I had set out to accomplish on my goals but I was able to add a lot of new capital into my portfolio. Some great additions to my portfolio, some dividend increases, and some dividend payments that I received and reinvested will allow for me to set up my portfolio for a lot of future success. Moving forward I am going to really strive to accomplish more of my goals so that I can reach financial independence that much sooner.
I look forward to reading all the comments and questions related to this update. Until then happy investing.
Even if you didn’t reach all your goals you are still moving in the direction you need to go!
Keep it up and pretty soon the money will be making money!

Slow and steady wins the race. Those dividends will increase big time over the coming years just keep adding like you do. Can’t wait to see what it looks like next year.

Hi I notice from your portfolio that you are showing BAC dividend increase , did you miss this 50% dividend increase from .20 to .30 per year ? 😄
Ahh thank you for pointing this out to me. I was aware of the increase but had failed to update it in my portfolio!
What program are you using to track your portfolio? Im trying to use mint right now but unfortunately I can’t export the data.
Currently I track my portfolio on Google Sheets which is just a copy and paste away from Microsoft Excel.
Keep that money rolling in buddy! That’s a few solid additions to your portfolio.
