On April 17th, Southern Company announced a dividend increase of2.9%. This will increase their dividend from $0.68 to $0.70. It is payable on June 6th for shareholders of record on May 15th. The new dividend represents an annualized dividend amount of $2.80 per share as compared to the previous annualized dividend amount of $2.72 per share.

I am currently holding 28.519 shares of Southern Company stock in the More Dividends portfolio. With this 2.9% increase it will add an additional $2.29 to my projected annual dividend income and this doesn’t even take into account the compounding factor! That brings the new grand total up to $2,528.03.

Current Stock Position
Southern Company has been a great stock in my portfolio. Initally, I held it in a taxable account but while doing a tax loss harvesting trick a few years ago I was able to reposition the stock in a nontaxable account.
The company pays a nice dividend at almost a 4% yield. I would love to add to this position but currently the share price is a lot higher than my cost basis.
As the company completes more of their on going facilities we should see the stock price continue to move up.
Hopefully the share price will come back down someday. When it does I will be there patiently waiting.
Regardless of how large or small, I love all dividend increases. That is how we end up with More Dividends 😉
