Viatris Increases Their Dividend by 9% in 2021

On January 6th, Viatris announced a dividend increase of 9%. This will increase their dividend per quarter from $0.11 to $0.12. It is payable on March 16th for shareholders of record on February 24th. The new quarterly dividend represents an annualized dividend amount of $0.48 per share as compared to the current annualized dividend amount of $0.44 per share.

Dividend Increase Effect

I am currently holding 80.716 shares of Viatris in the More Dividends portfolio. With this 9% increase it will add an additional $3.23 to my projected annual dividend income and this doesn’t even take into account the compounding factor!

Current Stock Position

I first received stock in Viatris after the company was spun off of Pfizer, a company that I have been holding the Pfizer position for many years now. Initially, I was unsure of what to do with the stock.

I knew that the company was more a less an aggregate of Pfizer’s pharmaceutical business that the no longer held the patents for.

Despite being hesitant to start with, I ended up starting to like the company. I didn’t feel like the market was valuing it correctly and that it may take a few quarters before that began to happen so I decided to build onto a position that started as just a couple of shares that were received during a company spin off.

Obviously, it will still take some time but thus far my investment thesis seems to be proving true with this recent dividend increase. I will continue to hold this position and allow the dividends to drip. Currently, each dividend payment will buy me another 3/4’s of a share. Sooner rather than later, the dividend amount will buy me a whole share each time until then I will just sit back and let the compounding continue.

Regardless of how large or small, I love all dividend increases. That is how we end up with More Dividends 😉
