A few things that I like to do for fun!
Intro
Welcome me back readers. If you have been following the blog then you will know that I have kind of disappeared over the course of the past 6 months. I mean honestly, I started this blog almost a decade ago when I first began investing.
As time went on, I learned to be very consistent. So I would publish articles on a lot of different themed ideas, as well as regularly posting monthly income reports, recent buy artiles and many more.
While I have been away working on other things, I definietly have continued on my investing journey. So moving forward look for a more consistent article stream being published here on the blog.
With that being said look for more interesting projects coming in the near future.
Until then, I thought that it might be kind of fun to talk a little bit about my hobbies and the things that I do for fun other than dividend growth investing.
Photography
My relationship with photography has been a very unique journey. Sometime in my teenage years I kind of began developing an interest in photography. In no time, I got my first point and shoot camera.
It didn’t take long for me to realize that I wasn’t able to produce the quality of work that I wanted so I quickly lost interest.
Fast forward more than a decade and that lingering desire to learn photography resurfaced and I decided to buy my first camera which was a Nikon D3300.
Now that I was armed with a neew camera I began learning the craft of photography. I started studying the different styles of photography that there was and I decided to marry my desire for photography with another interest that I had began having in life.
Hiking
I soon found myself on a journey that began with short local hikes but has grown into international travel to hike in some amazing places in other countries.
When I started out I was heading out into the woods with a pair of tennis shoes and a bottle of water.
Since that time I have stepped up my game because currently I am rocking these Columbia hiking boots and I am also currently carrying this RuPumPack. While I still love this hiking bag, I have outgrown the size of it so I am looking to upgrade to a larger size. If you have any recommendations then I would love to hear about them down in the comments down below.
It started with journeys here in my current state of Georgia. I have learned so much about the opportunites for hiking here that I started documenting it over on HikingInGeorgia.com. Since that time, I have even began posting videos on the HikingInGeorgia.com TikTok. As time went on I began hiking in other states when I would be traveling. Now, I am actually planning trips just so that I can do certain hikes.
So recently, I had taken a trip to Coasta Rica just to hike in the Cloud Forest and to hike the inactive volcano called Cerro Chato. It was an amazing experience and because of my interest in photography, I was able to document so much of the adventure and look forward to sharing it soon.
Photography/Hiking
With all of these hiking adventures going on and this strong desire for photography I needed some outlet to express this. So I found myself investing in my hobby and decided to begin posting all of my photography work on my Instagram.
It has been a great way to channel these energies and it has been a lot of fun. Getting to marry two of my interest has helped make my life that much more exciting.
I will continue to photograph and to post my work on these different platforms. Please leave me any comments if you see somethings that you like!
While I do have a great love for the adventure of hiking and for the art of photography. There is still one more thing that I actively do that I enjoy greatly.
Disc Golf
That is right. I absolutely love the game of disc golf. I literally got started by buying a starter disc golf set. That was my only expense because I have found that most county and city parks already have a disc golf course. Ever once in awhile I have had to pay $5 for parking but more often the parks actually have free parking. Since that time I have definietly upgraded my disc golf bag and have stocked it with a lot of great disc.
With this great sport, I love the fact that I am staying active while playing a low intensity sport while being outside or in the woods.
The game pretty much follows the same rules as golf so it is pretty easy for anyone to play. Plus it makes for some nice relaxing but bonding time to share with others.
I have been playing for a couple of years now so I have reached a point where I am getting prepared to sign up for my first tournment. Hopefully that goes well. I am sure that I will mention it in a future article somewhere.
Conclusion
Well, well, well…. aren’t a pretty busy boy.
I love spending my time doing things that I really enjoy and am passionate about. I feel very blessed to be able to build the life where I am getting to do these things on a fairly reglar basis.
Just like with my dividend investing, all of these hobbies are about the long term.
With each of them, I have spent countless hours studying the craft aswell as several years trying to hone that craft. Fortunately, as time has went on I have seen improvement in all of my hobbies.
I have learned to be a better hiker who can do more adventurous hikes in far away places which helps me produce some beautiful photography. With each attempt at landscape photography, I am crafting my art even more. The game of disc golf is about constant improvement of your technique, knowledge and experience.
Of all of my hobbies, I would definitely say that these three take up the most of my time and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
What kind of hobbies do you do for fun? I would love to hear about it.
What do you think about the things that I do for fun?
As always I look forward to reading all of your comments and questions, until then….. happy investing!

Tennis, pickleball, freshwater and saltwater fishing from my boat, hiking, off roading in our side by side ATV, blogging, volunteering at two colleges and one charitable foundation and on some economic development projects. We love all kinds of hiking, but almost always do it with two trekking poles for each of us. It really increases your speed and endurance when you can add arm power to leg power and definitely has saved us from a few tumbles when hiking extreme terrain.
