Dividend Increase – General Mills ( GIS )

Today, General Mills announced an increase to their dividend to $0.49 from $0.48. I recently had read an article that was predicting the dividend to be increased to $0.52. After reading the article it had me thinking about adding to my position but luckily I decided to not buy more based on my emotions.

Although this dividend is only a 2.1% increase, it is still great getting an increase from a company that is currently in transition within a shifting market. While the increase may be small now I believe once they get through this transition that they will be able to increase the dividend in bigger increments.

Currently I only own 12.1 shares of General Mills so this increase will only add $0.121 per dividend payment and $0.484 on my projected annual dividend income. Even though I have been receiving quite a few small increases lately they all add up to a nice little raise that I am getting.

Even though I didn’t add more shares before this dividend increase announcement, I would still consider adding shares at its current valuation as long as it were the best investment opportunity that I could find at the time.

I look forward to reading everyones thoughts and comments.
